Blank Space

I'm not going to lie - I have a perpetual craving for fries, and specifically truffle fries. Before I started my summer job, I made my way down to PS Cafe (Palais Renaissance) to satisfy a craving that remains virtually unsatisfied throughout the whole school term. We had a very good meal of fries and Croque Monsieur

The culottes craze has also been around for quite some time, but it took me a while to commit to one. Having worn culottes for four years as part of my school uniform has not exactly left the greatest impression of culottes in my mind; I vaguely recall them to be rather unflattering. When I saw this pair of striped culottes, I decided to take the plunge, because really, stripes? Need I say more? Stripes are a pretty classic print, and they were probably the deal-breaker that tilted me over to the dark side of accepting culottes into my wardrobe. In any case, I paired my culottes with a black cropped top, white sandals and a black bag for a minimalist, sleek look, and the monochromatic pairing is a combination which I daresay is one of the best combinations anybody could ever dream of putting together

Avalon

As a child, I was constantly fascinated by the abridged versions of the legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, and when I saw this skirt, those stories were strangely the only thing I could think of. The forest and lake print on the skirt reminded me of the lake in Avalon that Excalibur was thrown into, and I wore a miniature Excalibur around my neck in the form of a sword-shaped pendant, just as an inside joke to myself.

I'm pretty much infatuated with the magical forest print on the skirt (not to mention the A-line cut), and it called for silver-toned accessories and a dark blue bralet to mimic the still waters of the lake - now I'm just waxing lyrical about the skirt, but perhaps it doesn't seem too much of an exaggeration to say that staring at the print almost takes me into another world (Avalon, yes).

In other news, the cafe of the day was Pacamara Boutique Coffee Roasters, where ironically, we did not drink coffee, but instead had the Breakfast Platter, Sweet Potato Fries, and Key Lime Soda to share. The fries were done just right, and the food was good enough to leave me wanting to go there for a second time.

I decided to venture into the unchartered waters of burgundy - in the form of a cropped knit sweater. My thoughts? It wasn't as bad as I expected it to be, considering I've avoided the colour for a long time, but I don't see myself dressing up more often in the colour in the near future. I paired burgundy with black, because black is a safe haven, and also because a pair of high-waisted floral chiffon shorts calls to me like how I imagine honey calls to bees.

This sweater, though, calls to mind luxurious furs and gold jewellery (which I have managed to achieve by piling on necklaces and rings but no such luck on the furs), heeled pumps and midi skirts and a million other possibilities. If I lived in a colder climate, I would be sorely tempted to style this knit sweater with a cream or dark gold pleated midi skirt, and burgundy heels. It's a pity that Singapore weather is getting too hot for me to be pulling on this sweater again, but maybe some outfits are worth withstanding the heat for.

Belle

When your fantasies of watching your favourite Disney animation film in the form of a musical actually do come true, I guess the least you could do is attempt to dress up like the heroine in said film. In all honesty though, walking around in a midi skirt that flutters around your knees delicately with every step does make you feel something akin to royalty.

So in case you haven't yet guessed from the title and the colour scheme of my outfit, I had the brilliant opportunity of catching the Beauty and the Beast musical in April, and I enjoyed it immensely. It was pretty much a dream come true, and another item to strike off the bucket list. And at the age of (almost) twenty, when reality hits harder, and fairytales no longer have the same wondrous impact they once did, it's nice to keep the dream alive. I'd never had the chance to wear a princess dress when I was a child, so for now, let me just enjoy dressing up as Belle, in my own age-appropriate version of her outfit.

Summer Ready

It's been boiling hot in sunny Singapore for a couple of months already, and it doesn't actually make much sense to be Summer Ready since it's technically summer all year round, but heaven knows I'm eagerly waiting for the heatwave to die down. It's getting much to hot to consider wearing anything with sleeves unless absolutely unavoidable, and the modern invention of air-conditioner has never seemed more like a godsend before.

In other news, I've just begun my third week at work, and am slowly getting into the routine of having to wake up early to go to the office and then going home when the sky is dark. Nevertheless, the humidity hanging low in the air makes me want to throw all sense of style out of the window and wear a t-shirt and shorts, at least until I reach the relative cool comfort of the office building.

So for those of us who still have to brave the heat when travelling and walking down hot roads, I suppose the only comfortable option is a tank top and shorts, but that's no excuse to look sloppy, in any case. I don't usually dress like this, so I took the opportunity to stack on some armcandy and gold rings, and to pull on a pair of floral high-tops to add a unique kick to my outfit. Comfort and style don't need to be mutually exclusive, yes?
